My husband did a research paper for social linguistics. He identified a variety of non-verbal communications between people just by their dress that might identify age, occupation, religion, political views, status, etc. He was curious about public interactions when these social semaphores were absent. He visited several nudist clubs interviewing members and guests. He found there was no longer presumptuous characterizations or subtle discriminations. Children dived for change at the bottom of the pool. Elderly couples would idly float with water wings about their arms. Young people laughed and played volleyball. Older men threw horseshoes. Women entertained shuffleboard. Everyone lying in the sun using first names only. There were beautiful bodies, others worn, and some even scarred like mine. It didn't seem to matter. Pleasant afternoons of "The Bathers" by Cezanne.
